Small Businesses

At Langschied Consulting Services we understand how difficult it can be for small businesses to keep there computer systems operating smoothly. There are so many issues that come up and hiring full-time staff to solve the computer needs is not an option. Often times these duties fall to the most computer savvy person in the company. Though this person may be capable handling the day-to-day issues, this person usually has other duties and many of the long range planning cannot be done. We offer our time to help small businesses plan for the growth of their computer systems, as well as keeping them up-to-date with the latest software.

The office area is usually made up of a handful of computers loosely connected together via LAN wiring to a router, a switch, or both. A number of these computers may have printers attached that are shared with other users. There also may be an internet access of some sort. This may take the form of dial-up modems or a DSL modem from the local telephone company. A heavy computer user would have no trouble keeping a system like this going. However, there are a number of problems with this setup from a long term point of view. Eventually, there will be a need to centralize the applications/data that need to be shared by all users. This requires the installation of a server. The installation and setup of a server requires planning, time and expertise.

Once a server has become the focal point of the users access to company applications/data, the need for workstation standardization comes into play. Also, the need for backing up critical data becomes necessary. These two points become the crux of the smooth operation inside the office environment. Now, all workstations have to access the same software and, therefore, need to be the same. The data generated is now very important to everyone, so it is important to make sure that everyone does not lose data in the event of system failure.

It bears saying that the protection of the data is every bit as important as its storage. In the world of the internet, the infiltration of viruses into the work environment can wreak havoc. This does not only apply to those using the internet, but to those sharing that users files. In addition, viruses can be introduced via CD-ROMs brought in from the outside world. It is imperative that all users have, at a minimum, anti-virus software installed and up-to-date. Heavy internet users may also need to have spyware and spamkiller software installed, as well.

Langschied Consulting Services can assist you in bringing all of these components into line. Our goal is to become your on-call local IT staff. We seek to make sure that every small business is "connected". Copyright 2007
